The Kjenndalsbreen is Norway in miniature

You can visit many different glacier arms of the Jostedalsbreen in the area of Loen. Last summer we combined our trip to Lovatnet with a visit to the Kjenndalsbreen! The least popular of four well-known glacier arms (Nigardsbreen, Brikdalsbreen, Bødalsbreen and Kjenndalsbreen) in this area, but to us this was one of the main reasons to pay the glacier a visit. You can find the Kjenndalsbreen south of the Lovatnet in Loen, nearby Stryn in Sogn og Fjordane. You can make the hike to the glacier arm as easy or hard as you’d like. For example you can start the hike down in the valley and walk up to the foot of the glacier within 45 minutes or you can…

The tragic history of the beautiful Lovatnet

The Lovatnet is a beautiful lake with a long, tragic history. A little past Loen, in the area of Stryn in Sogn og Fjordane, you can still tell from the surroundings what distasters took place in this gorgeous valley more than a century ago. The pearly green lake contains mostly melt water that finds it’s way down from the Jostedalsbreen and the Tindefjellbreen to the Lodalen valley. From the Lovatnet on the water flows through the Loelva river all the way to the Nordfjorden. Because of the sky high mountain tops surrounding the lake, the bright water in the fjord and lake and greener than green grass along the waters, the Lovatnet is almost too pretty to be true. Tourists are very fond of…

Magical reindeer sleigh ride through the frozen valley of Camp Tamok

Warning! This article contains pictures of reindeer butts and a blonde woman with an insanely big smile on her face. I have been super passionate about reindeer for some time now. That’s not a secret. So when Bart-Jan and I decided to take a trip to Tromsø, I knew one thing for sure: I had to go on a sleigh ride with Santa’s helpers! I was super excited to go see the breathtaking Northern Lights, go whale watching in the fjords, but I had one main priority: to cuddle with REINDEER! Soon we discovered Lyngsfjord Adventure. An organization that’s specialized in dog sledding, reindeer sledding, snowmobile safari and sleeping under the Northern Lights.…

Norway is about to open a scenic viewing point over Gaularfjellet

One of the better kept secrets of fjord Norway is the Gaularfjellet. Gaularfjellet is a mountain lying in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, which is crossed by a road from Dragsvik to Moskog. This road belongs to the 18 official national tourist routes of Norway and treats its visitors to something that can be called quite an impressive roadtrip. The journey starts at the longest fjord in the world (Sognefjord) and takes you over tiny mountain paths, to see lively rapids and waterfalls, all the way along the river Gaula to the highest point of the route: the Gaularfjellet. Last summer we traveled over this amazing national tourist route as well. With our favorite part: the highest point…
