Winter in Tromsø – a complete travel guide

Tromsø, with its 40.000 residents – representing over 100 different nationalities – is the largest city in northern Norway. Originally a launch point for polar expeditions, this charming port city has increasingly attracted visitors from around the world in recent years. And it’s easy to see why. Perfectly situated north of the Arctic Circle and surrounded by stunning mountain peaks, Tromsø serves as the ultimate base for winter vacations in northern Norway. After my fifth visit to this breathtaking place, I thought it was time to put together a comprehensive guide on all my favorite activities in Tromsø. Here’s your complete travel guide to unforgettable winter days in northern Norway’s…

Tromsø Ice Domes: A magical night in an icehotel

Update: In winter season 2024/2025 the Ice Domes will not be doing overnight stays anymore. You can consider spending a night at Snowhotel Kirkenes instead. I created Lost in Norvana as a combination of ‘Norway’ and ‘nirvana’. Nirvana is a place of perfect peace and happiness, like heaven. In Buddhism it’s the highest state that one can attain, a state of enlightenment, meaning a person’s individual desires and suffering will go away. That feeling of being completely whole and satisfied, having nothing…

Magical reindeer sleigh ride through the frozen valley of Camp Tamok

Warning! This article contains pictures of reindeer butts and a blonde woman with an insanely big smile on her face. I have been super passionate about reindeer for some time now. That’s not a secret. So when Bart-Jan and I decided to take a trip to Tromsø, I knew one thing for sure: I had to go on a sleigh ride with Santa’s helpers! I was super excited to go see the breathtaking Northern Lights, go whale watching in the fjords, but I had one main priority: to cuddle with REINDEER! Soon we discovered Lyngsfjord Adventure. An organization that’s specialized in dog sledding, reindeer sledding, snowmobile safari and sleeping under the Northern Lights.…

    Living a fairytale in Tromsø

Last Wednesday, after a somewhat sloppy landing, we arrived at Schiphol Airport again. Because we had to go back to work the day after coming home and there was quite some housekeeping to do, it took me some time to write this story. It was worth it though, because we had such an amazing week. Walt Disney can’t even compete with our stories, because what we did was absolutely magical. Send two adults to Tromsø and they make their own fairytale. The most beautiful fairytale in the world. I hereby promise that I will write about all our expeditions and activities in seperate posts later on, for everyone who’s interested…
