Fjällräven Abisko Trekking Tights review

Fjällräven Abisko Trekking Tights op de Veluwe

It’s no secret, of course, that I’m a huge Fjällräven fangirl. After my Fjällräven Polar and Fjällraven Classic adventures, I developed such a great love for the people and the brand that for my outdoor gear I automatically go for the Swedish brand “with the little fox” (yes, including the Abisko Trekking Tights in this review). Every time I walk into the flagship store in Amsterdam, here in the Netherlands where I live, even if I’m only popping in to say “hi”, I already know I won’t be leaving empty-handed. And always with a free smile to go.

Of course, my opinion of Fjällräven products is based on more than love for the people and cherishing a few unforgettable memories. My enthusiasm is mainly based on my personal experiences. Fjällräven gear is simply só good that you won’t want anything else. And everything they make stays looking good for ye-ars, too.

Long legs, do(n’t) care!

But! When I got to test the Fjällräven Abisko Trekking Tights, I was skeptical. With my long legs (I’m 1.85m) I rarely find pants or leggings that are long enough and don’t slide down. Based on the size chart, I first ordered the tights in a size S. To my great (make that VERY great) surprise, the leggings were long enough for my legs! Unfortunately, this size was just a little too tight around my stomach, and it was uncomfortable to wear them for longer than 20 minutes.

Luckily I could exchange them for a size up, and a few days later my new leggings in size M were already on my doormat. The length was perfect again, but the rest of the leggings seemed a bit loose around my legs and butt. Because the leggings aren’t completely snug, they ride up and my ankles still peek out as soon as I start hiking. That’s why I wear my hiking socks óver my leggings, even though that looks a bit silly. By the way, it’s no different with the other leggings I wear for hiking.

Leggings with pockets?!

I managed to pretty much solve the ‘problem’ after a hot wash, because the fit of the tights has been a lot better ever since! And overall I’m réally happy with my pair. Unlike a lot of (cheaper) leggings, these don’t itch when you sweat in them. They don’t smell, don’t stick, dry quickly and HAVE POCKETS! One with a zipper on the left side and one without a zipper on the right side. I often use them for my phone, Buff or other small things I like to keep at hand.

I’m also super happy with the knee panels and the reinforced seat. You can sit down on wet surfaces without a second thought, or kneel to pitch your tent or put the dog on its leash without hurting yourself. Your butt also gets cold a lot less quickly when you sit down on a rock, and you don’t just slide off it after it’s rained.

The Abisko Trekking Tights: not perfect, but essential

Although they’re not perfect for me personally, I don’t go anywhere without these leggings. What would make me really happy is an in-between size for people with long legs. Despite my bare ankles, this is still one of my favorite pieces of my hiking gear. And let’s be honest: didn’t we all look fabulous together in the same leggings?!

The Fjällräven Abisko Trekking Tights are available at www.fjällräven.com for €169.95.
By the way, they also come in a version for men! Who says outdoor clothing can’t be sexy?
