Europe’s first under water dinner experience to open in Norway

Norway is already home to having coffee with a view, dining under the Northern Lights and sleeping in ice hotels, but architect firm Snøhetta is taking it to the next level. Becaues in 2019 they will be opening Europe’s first under water restaurant in the southern part of Norway in a small village called Båly. And the first images are seriously impressive!

Spectacular view

Apart from a beautiful aquarium restaurant, ‘Under’ is supposed to not coexist along the sea life, but actually become a piece of the martitime environment. The structure will be resting on the seabed, 5 metres under the water surface. Metres thick concrete walls will make sure the visitors keep their feet (and food) dry!

This spectaculair eatery is going to be three floors up with seats for up to 100 guests and will even have a luxury champagne bar. The interior design will have a maritime theme (obviously), built up with shells, rocks, sand and blue-green color schemes. But the biggest eyecatcher of the place is going to be the giant window with ocean view. Literally.

Local seafood, sea birds and sheep

Are you hungry yet? Well the menu is already being made by chef Nicolai Ellitsgaard Pedersen, former head chef of Måltid in Kristiansand. Ofcourse lots of local seafood will be served, but you can also try out dishes made with sea birds and wild sheep from local islands.

A breathtaking under water experience

‘Under’ doesn’t only mean ‘under water’, but also translates to ‘wonder’ in Norwegian. The mission of ‘Under’ is to show the versatile biodiversity of the ocean to a big public and create a breathtaking experience both physically and intelectually. Apart from entertaining and beautiful, the restaurant will also be informative for all ages.

If you ask me they already succeeded in creating a mindblowing concept and I will totally put this experience on my bucket list. Who would you take to this restaurant with you in 2019?
